Do you know how to get the most out of a high definition camera?
This intensive, highly practical two-day workshop will take you through the fundamentals of documentary camera techniques.
It is taught on the industry standard Sony Z-1, the camera of choice for many documentary filmmakers.
Led by an industry professional, you will discover – and learn how to exploit – the potential of the Z-1 camera. Through a series of practical exercises, you will learn how to operate the Z-1 in the most competent way, and become familiar with the range of settings on the camera menu. You will also learn the principles of composition and recording images.
Under the tutors's guidance, you will put your skills into practice on ‘shoots’ in which you and your partner go off on location and record your own footage.
On your return, there will be a dedicated period for reviewing your rushes, and analysing the ways in which you might improve or build upon the filming techniques you have acquired.
This course is a thorough introduction to filming with the Z-1 and is suitable for people with little or no experience of working with high definition video. By the end of the workshop you will have acquired an in-depth knowledge of how high definition video works, it’s benefits and its potential. With your new skills you will be able to start shooting your own films, and be able to work effectively as part of a production team.
