Sound plays an integral element in your documentary film, and yet is overlooked and often treated as the poor sister to getting the shot. Also, in post-production, sound is as important a creative element as editing the pictures.
This workshop will rely heavily on demonstration using the latest equipment and it will also include a number of practical exercises where you'll be recording sound with different sound equipment in varying situations.
The course will cover issues of :
- exploring quality and quantity in terms of sound;
- being aware of background sounds and the factors which affect sound recording;
- listening and using headphones correctly;
- how to get clear dialogue;
- when and how to use different types of sound equipment to obtain the best results;
- mics: rifle mike on mini boom, stereo mike on stand, dynamic hand held;
- SQN mixer and HDV camera;
- location recording techniques;
- sound recording without words;
- creating and collecting sound effects;
- sound and post production
You'll examine the sound problems most commonly faced by lone filmmakers and sound recordists and the best way to tackle these problems.
This course has a real hands on approach so participants will confidently grasp the technical aspects covered during the day by learning through practical experience.
Filmmakers need to have solid technical knowledge in order to understand and be capable of harnessing the creative potential of sound.
