London International Documentary Festival

London

28th March - 4th April 2009

2008 sees the 3rd edition of the London International Documentary Festival (LIDF) in association with the London Review of Books. From humble beginnings in 2007 to this year’s expansive programme of over 80 films in 8 venues, over 8 days, with Q&As with directors, panel discussions and conversations, the LIDF goes beyond the films themselves to create new critical spaces within which audiences and filmmakers, in conversation, can engage with the social, cultural and political content of the films.

The festival is the beginning of a unique collaboration with the American Museum of Natural History's Margaret Mead Film and Video Festival.  Films from New York will be screened alongside innovative documentaries from UK and Europe over the last two years.  There will be screenings, question and answer sessions, and panel discussions with guest speakers and industry.

All entries must be either in English or contain English subtitles. Non-English entries submitted without subtitles or with supplementary printed translations will be automatically disqualified.

London International Documentary Festival – Encore! At The Roxy Bar And Screen

Monday 21st May – Monday 24th September

March 2007 saw the launch of an important new event in the London cultural scene – the first London International Documentary Festival (LIDF) at the British Museum.

PocketVisions – the presenters of the LIDF - has teamed up with the Roxy Bar and Screen to bring you a free summer programme of the best from the LIDF submissions. This means a chance to screen again films that featured in the festival alongside others from the short- short list that had to be omitted for reasons of space.

Screenings will be followed by the usual PocketVisions ‘conversations’ - Q&A’s with the directors and debate. See right for details.
